SUGAR | Mini Banana Pudding Dessert Shooters

Wednesday, February 27

Dessert Shooters are one of my favorite things to make.
Mini + Delicious = a perfect dessert table item.

Aside from dessert tables and celebrations though...
they are a form of "portion control"...
which for me is very important when it comes to sweets because I tend to eat more than I should. *wink*

Thanks to a potluck I participated in last week…
I was inspired to revisit a favorite recipe of mine...

Mini Banana Pudding Dessert Shooters

Surprisingly, I'm NOT a huge Banana Pudding lover...
However, this recipe is something I'll absolutely devour...

It's actually a recipe I shared with you a couple of 4th of July celebrations back.

Why would I share a recipe I've already shared here?
Because it's THAT good....
because I swapped out the Vanilla Wafers I originally used...
AND...
If you aren't a fan of Banana Pudding...
and you missed my original post...
or you haven't tried this yet...
you've simply got to try this.

"Not Yo Mama's Banana Pudding" originally by Paula Deen
adapted by Pen N' Paperflowers for Mini Dessert Shooters

TOOLS NEEDED
40 plastic shot glasses
Mixing Bowls
Hand Mixer

INGREDIENTS
1   12-ounce container frozen whipped topping, thawed
1   14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1   8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
2 cups milk
1   5-ounce box instant Vanilla pudding - recipe calls for FRENCH Vanilla but I can't ever find it in the right size
3   bananas, sliced - I was able to make approximately 40 shooters
1   bag Pepperidge Farm Chessmen cookies - crushed into crumbs (use a rolling pin, blender or food processor)
2-3 bags Pepperidge Farm MINI Chessmen cookies for topping

INSTRUCTIONS
Combine the milk and pudding mix in a small bowl and blend well using a handheld electric mixer.  Set aside.
Using a large bowl, combine the cream cheese and condensed milk together. Mix until smooth.
Fold the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture.
Add the pudding mixture to the cream cheese mixture and stir until well blended.
Pour the mixture into a gallon size ziploc bag and snip off a small corner to easily fill each shot glass.
Prepare shot glasses for filling by lining them up.
Partially fill each shot glass with mixture.
Add one slice of banana.
Cover banana slice with small sprinkling of Crushed Pepperidge Farm Chessmen Cookies.
Add another layer of banana pudding. Be sure to leave room for more cookie crumbs.
Add a Mini Chessmen Cookie and then top with more cookie crumbs to cover.

Makes 40 servings.
Can be made a day ahead.
Store in an airtight container until ready to serve.

Paula Deen's original version of this recipe using a 13x9 pan can be found HERE.

Don't like bananas at all?
Eliminate the banana slice altogether and
you've got yourself a Creamy Vanilla Cookie Crumb Parfait. *wink*

KEY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MY MINI VERSION AND THE ORIGINAL 13x9 Pan:
– 3 bananas instead of the 6-8 the original recipe called for.
– ONE bag of the regular Pepperidge Farm Chessmen cookies needed instead of two.
– 3 bags of Mini Pepperidge Farm Chessemen cookies replace the one bag of regular Chessmen Cookies you would've purchased.

TIP:
If you decide to make the original recipe using the 13x9 pan, open both bags of the Chessmen Cookies to make sure you've got WHOLE cookies for the top of your dessert. Oftentimes there will be broken cookies and you can use those on the bottom - saving the pretty ones for the top! *wink*

I hope you'll try these out and report back your results.

KEEPiNG iT REAL
These Banana Shooters are a perfect example of how I find ways to
blend my "life behind the scenes" with content for my blog.
I could've chosen to bring a pot of baked beans to the potluck I was going to...
But photos of that wouldn't have been nearly as cute! *wink*

Where did you get these shot glasses from?! They are exactly what I'm looking for and I can't find them anywhere!

I love these!! A super idea for a party of any kind and so festive!! I would tend to want more than one slice of banana, so I think. I'll try that first. Thank you so much for posting this great idea for serving Not Yo Mama's Banana Pudding!!

Do you have any suggestions as to where we can find the mini chessmen cookies? I live on the west coast and it doesn't seem like many stores carry them! Thanks for your help!

Agree with An - cannot find mini chessmen anywhere except Amazon. I may try these in a little bigger cup with the big chessmen. Thanks for the idea.

Hi DogMOM916 - I apologize for just seeing your message. Believe it or not, the best places to search for the mini chessman are in the Dollar Spot at Target and in the checkout lines at grocery stores. I have also seen them in the Dollar Stores on occasion. I hope that helps. Did you try the big ones?

No worries Pen + Paper Flowers! Ah! That is a place I did not try! Will be on the lookout at one of my favorite stores :-) I never see those at my Dollar Tree, unfortunately.

I did try the bigger ones in a bigger, fatter plastic party cup and it worked great, but probably smaller cups are more appropriate for the 4-5 yr-olds as a lot got wasted since the cup was too big for them. But the adults ate them just fine. Thanks again!
