CRAFT | DIY Halloween Book Cover

Over the next week or so...
I'll be sharing bits and pieces of Halloween-inspired crafts and diy decor...
taken from a festive food table I'll be posting.

Today's peek involves creating customized book covers for simple decorative accents.
This easy craft will allow you to add ghoulishly adorable decor to a variety of areas in your home.
(fireplace mantle, bookshelf, front entryway, kitchen island, etc.)

"Bewitching" DIY Book Covers

STEP ONE

BOOK and FONT Selection

Select a book to use with a nice, wide spine. Cover your book with a paper bag. 

If you don't already know how to do this...

here's a paper bag book cover tutorial for you to follow.

STEP TWO

MEASURE AND PRINT

We are focusing on the book spine for this project.

You'll be creating a customized "Book Title" using your computer and home printer.

Open your favorite software program to create your book title. Select a font you like. 

I used Blackmoor beacuse it's BOLD, easy to read and has on old vintage vibe to it.

Do an approximate measure of the book spine to determine how big you'll need the title to be.

Create the title and print onto regular printing paper.

STEP THREE

TAPE AND TRACE

Cut out your creative printed book title and tape to the spine of your book.

Using a pencil or other object, trace the outline of each letter.

Be sure to press hard enough to make an impression on the brown paper bag underneath.

 Don't press too hard in order to avoid tearing the paper.

STEP FOUR

RETRACE

Remove the "stencil" you printed and "embossed" into your book spine.

Impressions of the lettering should be visible.

Using a black Sharpie, trace the outlines of the lettering.

 Trace lightly to allow for the ink to bleed a little.

STEP FIVE

FILL

Complete the book title by filling in the lettering completely using a black Sharpie.

Clean up any lines or areas that need more definition by tracing back over with your marker.

Simple enough, right?

"Spellbound", "Potions & Powders", "Book of Spells"
